About the event
Jon Alexander began his career in advertising, winning the prestigious Big Creative Idea of the Year, before making a dramatic change. Driven by a deep need to understand the impact on society of 3,000 commercial messages a day, he gathered three Masters degrees, exploring consumerism and its alternatives from every angle. In 2014, he co-founded the New Citizenship Project to bring the resulting ideas into contact with reality.
Jon's book Citizens charts the recent rise of the ‘Citizen Story’ across politics, business, civil society and in our communities, and explores how it's challenging the fundamental nature and assumptions of our institutions – as well as showing what we can all do to play our part in the transformation.
Since Jon’s book came out in March last year, he’s been on tour almost constantly, travelling literally around the world, working with local and national governments as well as businesses to challenge and support them to see the power that is in citizens and communities – and also visiting pioneering grassroots organisations to share stories and build that power.
With our friends at East Marsh United featuring as one of the first stories in the book, he’s excited to visit The Rabbit Hole, hear local citizen stories and share some of those he’s heard along the way.
